Advancing Radiation Tolerant Robotics with UKAEA

Veolia’s nuclear solutions business has been awarded a contract by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE) facility to develop radiation tolerant automation technology under the Fusion Futures Industry Capability (FFIC) program.

Project P170 – Fusion Oriented Robotic Technology (FORT) will focus on:

  • Integrating rad-hardened vision systems with robotic platforms
  • Developing software for dynamic path planning & collision avoidance
  • Testing and demonstrating automation in representative fusion environments

This collaboration continues Veolia’s nuclear solutions team's long-standing partnership with UKAEA and strengthens our research in remote handling and automation solutions for the nuclear sector.

The contract runs until March 2026.
