A course designed to provide a step-by-step understanding of the journey of radioactive waste: where it comes from, how it is characterised, measured, managed and treated until it reaches its final destination. It explores the key role of nuclear measurement and the main principles underpinning waste management processes, offering a simple and practical overview of the subject.

Price: €2,230 excl. VAT per trainee

Location: At Veolia | Nuclear Solutions offices in Aix-en-Provence or at your premises (for a course with at least 6 participants)

Duration: 3 days (21 hours)

Prerequisites: 

  • Reading, writing, understanding and speaking French
  • Module 1 or equivalent (understanding physical quantities such as activity, dose, associated units and nuclear risks)

  • General overview, waste management streams and transport: waste sources, key players in waste management
  • Definition of a waste management stream, waste packages and packaging, ANDRA’s waste management streams, CIRES, CSA
  • Characterisation, measurements and laboratory work: context and challenges, characterisation methods, non-destructive and destructive measurements, sampling
  • Chemical and radiological characterisation of waste
  • Transport of nuclear waste: regulations in France, safety aspects, packaging
    of radioactive waste, classification of radioactive materials
