Veolia announced that its Nuclear Solutions entity, through its subsidiary Kurion (Canada) Inc., has been selected to design, fabricate, and commission a major remote waste access and conditioning system at the Whiteshell Laboratories in Manitoba under a new agreement with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories. The agreement builds on Veolia Nuclear Solutions’ successfully deploying similar technologies at Dounreay in the UK, and represents a significant move into the Canadian market for the firm.

Veolia announced that its Nuclear Solutions entity, through its subsidiary Kurion Inc., will deploy effluent treatment systems at four Magnox sites in the United Kingdom under a new contract between the two firms. Under the agreement with Magnox Limited, the company will design, build and install the new systems at the four sites, enabling the removal of contaminated waste from the sites’ active effluent water treatment, ponds water filtration, and cesium removal plants.

Veolia Nuclear Solutions announced the successful demonstration of their GeoMelt® In-Container Vitrification (ICV)™ process for treatment of reactive metals. Veolia, under contract with Idaho National Laboratory (owned by the U.S. Department of Energy and managed by Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC) demonstrated safe conversion of sodium metal to a non-reactive vitrified oxide form.
