Fusion facilities require remote robotic systems for inspection and maintenance due to extreme radiation levels that prevent human access. However, existing robots lack reliable vision in high-radiation environments, limiting their autonomy and increasing operator dependency. The UK Atomic Energy Authority selected Veolia to develop a radiation-tolerant, vision-enabled robotic system for its Fusion Oriented Robotic Technology (FORT) programme. Veolia's solution integrates radiation-tolerant cameras, machine vision and robotic automation to enable safer, more autonomous operations in fusion facilities.
